It's been a while since the last time I posted here on my blog! Oh I really missed this! My last post I think was during the first week of January of this year when I posted about My Personal Learnings this 2011.
Anyways, this post is all about my new advocacy, our new battle, which is the battle to fight against the pandemic HIV/AIDS. This pandemic has been affecting the entire world and about 33.3 million all over the world, inflicting the young from 15-24 years old. I don't know how to help, I don't know how to begin, and I don't know how to fight but I know I've got something to do for me to extend my help.
My advocacy ignited when my professor has shared to me something about her personal experience. A qualitative study which she authored was shared and presented to us. Let me share to you what the study was all about. This study talks about the current condition of HIV/AIDS at the Botswana South Africa, where most cases of HIV/AIDS were reported. She narrated to us how it changes the lives of people living in the community and how it affects their way of life, culture, their family. I was surprised and astounded how this disease affects all walks of life. Death due to HIV/AIDS is just a normal event then, to the extent that most deaths are due to HIV/AIDS-related diseases so funeral business are on peak. Children too are victims. Yes, HIV/AIDS knows no gender, no status, no age, everyone can be infected for vaccine and medicines are not yet available. Most children have been infected through perinatal transmission or mother-child transmission for the virus can only be transmitted via blood and sexual fluids. And this touched my heart, this struck me, and this reminds me of something I need to do. I can't stand seeing children digging their grave as they approached the sunset of their life at their very young age. And this pushed me to get involved, to start breaking the culture of silence and shout-out to the world how I could help!
And I did not fail I'm doing my part, I always incorporate education for compassion and awareness campaign in all subjects that I have and urge my student to get involved too. Last February 2012, I invited my dear professor to personally share to my students her experiences and to be able to strengthen instilling this to my students. She did not fail me. She came over. She shared her experiences. This doesn't stop here. Same month during the Love Month, we handed it down to to the Brgy. level. My students and I have let the awareness campaign started to go beyond by educating others specially the youth in the community. I was so delighted. I felt so fortunate enough. I felt the urge to help and to show compassion. And I know it won't stop here. The battle is just about to begin.. More is yet to come! =)
